Dr.A.RAMAMOORTHY is hailing from a small village called Kaveripattanam in Dharmapuri district, one of the backward districts of Tamil Nadu, INDIA. He was born in an agricultural family and had his school education in tamil medium in the primary school and board high school of Kaveripattanam. He was very studious in his school days and obtained first rank in final examination. He was immediately selected into St.Joseph's College, Trichy a prestigious institution of tamilnadu in pre university course. He was given merit Scholarship in the college for his high ranking marks. After this he was selected for M . B . B .S in Stanley Medical College and then continued his basic Medical Course at Coimbatore Medical College. In both these Institutions he was awarded with Merit Scholarship for his studies.

            After finishing M.B.B.S he joined M.S.(General Surgery Course) at Stanley Medical College, Madras. After completing the post graduate course, he was selected to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research ( JIPMER ) Pondichery for the post of senior Resident. After completing one year stay at JIPMER, he was selected for Tamil Nadu Medical Services as tutor in surgery in Coimbatore Medical College in 1981. Then he was promoted as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Coimbatore Medical College in the year 1988. Now for the past 18 years he is a popular teacher and surgeon in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. At present he is civil surgeon in charge of Laparoscopy services at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. 

            During his work in CMC Hospital he started showing interests in "Laparoscopic Surgery" a new field which was in infancy at that time . After taking a basic training in Laparoscopy at Gynaecology department at CMC hospital in the year 1985, he was first to apply this Technique in General Surgery at CMC Hospital. He was the first to do "Dual Trocar" Technique to take Liver Biopsy under direct Vision Laparoscopy. 

             From "Direct Vision Laparoscopy " this field moved on to "Video Laparoscopy". So he went to Singapore to have training and attended a workshop on Laparoscopic Chloecystectomy in the year 1990 at General Hospital, Singapore. After coming back from Singapore, he was one of the first persons in India to do various Laparoscopic Procedures like Appendicectomy, Cholecystomy, Adhsiolys,Ovarian Cystectomy, repair of hernias etc. 

            Today with the experience of more than thousand cases in Laparoscopy, he is one of the leading Laparoscopic surgeons in Tamil Nadu. He is training many youngsters in this new field and trying to spread the knowledge of Lapraoscopy among Medical men and public as well. Dr.A.Ramamoorthy has his own centre called Advanced Laparoscopy Centre and he is in charge of laparoscopy services at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
